I had my daughter almost 7 months ago and I am still 20 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. I lost a good 15 lbs after the baby, but then life took over, I struggle to find time to exercise (especially with two kids at my side 24/7) and the reality is, I am not of a slim frame. Never have been.
I’ve always been gordita or curvy, chubby whatever you want to call it. Even when I lose weight I’m gordita — and that’s ok! I am nearly 35 years old and I can happily say that I know how to dress for my body. I know how to accentuate the good stuff and how to cover up or “re-work” other areas. I have been a range of sizes from 6 – 18 and right now I’m a size 12/14 — I’m working on losing the pounds and in the meantime I strive to look my best.
I get so many comments about how great I look and how flat my tummy is. I am always very thankful for the compliments, but I am quick to respond that it’s all thanks to…SHAPEWEAR. Seriously! There is no way I would look the way I do without my shapewear cami and undies/shorts (tummy tuck!) AND I have learned to suck in my tummy at all times. I’ve been doing it since I was a child and it’s just second nature.
But here’s the thing — ALL women need shapewear.
Yes it keeps the rollitos in check and controls the muffin top, but even naturally slim women need shapewear to create a smooth appearance (you don’t want panty lines), create a slimming silhouette and accentuate your natural curves without having to worry about something popping out.
Ladies, it’s okay to FAKE IT ‘TILL YOU MAKE IT.
I am all for revealing my secrets and helping others with ideas and ways to improve looks and appearances. Last week on my way to a SPANX event (I know, the PERFECT event for me) I Instagramed a picture of myself sitting on the metro looking tummy smooth — I was wearing my shapewear jeans and I am love shouting out about it. Just LOOK at the effect, good right? Because trust me, I don’t look like that without shapewear.
What is your must-have piece of shapewear?
