Not only did we find a the perfect dress for her to wear, but she was inspired to try out some new looks for other occasions — date night and a family day out. She took the Stella & Dot Medina Bib Necklace (it’s a beauty and it goes with everything!) that I gave her and she wore it with three different outfits.
Here is Nikki showing off her three new looks, including fresh makeup — very important to update that too!
CLASSIC | CUTE | PREPPY
It wasn’t just the re-shopping of the closet and the new looks that she discovered, but she had also updated her makeup look and is now taking BB cream very seriously and loving the feeling of feeling good about herself!
SIMPLE | FLIRTY | COLORFUL
VIBRANT | PROFESSIONAL | FRESH
Here’s a quick Q&A with Nikki about her personal style before and after children — Jack, 2 years and Nora, 5 months:
What is your profession?
Teacher turned stay at home mom and now back to teaching! (She got the job!)
High school Spanish teacher
Describe your style now
Very casual, jeans and simple tops. I at least try to wear cute sandals instead of flip flops in the summer. I the fall I always wear boots or flats.
Describe your style before having children
When I was in the working work, my style was conservative and not too fussy. I generally stick to staples and solid colors. I’ve always rather dress something up with a piece of jewelry or a scarf. For years it seemed like my closet was entirely black but I have recently sworn off buying more black clothing.
What makeup are you wearing the pictures?
L’Oreal BB Cream, Neutrogena Shine Control Foundation, Boots No 7 Mineral Blusher, Mary Kay Eye Shadow, Maybelline Volume Express Mascara and Mary Kay Lip Gloss.
I’m sure it’s been a while since you’ve been in heels and a dress — how did it feel?
Pretty! I recently watched a short video of myself where I felt I looked much older than my age, tired and just plain sloppy. It felt really good to feel like myself again just updating my look and makeup.
What is your favorite accessory?
I love wearing scarves and I can’t say no to a good statement necklace!
Your best feature?
My green eyes and I’ve grown to embrace my freckles!
Sometimes it takes seeing a photo of yourself or a video like Nikki to realize, “Hey, that’s not me!” and it gives you a push to get back to looking and feeling your best.
Remember, just five minutes is all you need for makeup in the morning and you don’t need to spend money to get a new wardrobe — have a friend come over and put together looks for you, have a “mom swap” and exchange items with other friends and lastly, don’t get down on yourself. We’ve all been there, TRUST ME. Just remember that when you look and feel good, your attitude will change and most importantly your children will notice too.
I am so happy to have been able to help her — sometimes all you need is a fresh pair of eyes. Let me know if you have a question or want some ideas on how to spice up your mom uniform.
