I’m very particular about wearing… or should I say NOT wearing sneakers (or trainers) unless they can provide some sort of added style or complete an outfit. Let me make this clear, unless you are out for a run, working out or exercising in some way you should NOT, I repeat should NOT wear running shoes as part of your outfit. EVER.
There is a serious misconception that “comfy shoes” means running shoes. NO!
For comfort you can wear cute flats or, here’s a thought….fashionable sneakers. Yes, they do exist and everyone needs a pair in their closet.
Never heard of them? Then allow me to break it down for you — Superga are the incredibly more stylish and effortlessly classy European cousin of Keds and Chuck Taylors.
But don’t just take my word for it, check out THREE different looks from three very different women (okay, so I’m one of them!) — Ruth Barzel, mom of two and jewelry designer, Christen Kinard, owner of Social Shop Media and myself a very busy mamá.
Ruth, whose kids are 12 and 19 says “I love that they are super casual and comfy but also stylish. I can wear them to the farmers market or my son’s baseball games and feel like I’m dressed appropriately but look chic at the same time. I also think it’s great that there are so many mouthwatering colors and different fabrics to choose from. I chose a neutral pair for my first ones but am thinking of adding another fun color to my shoe collection!”
Christen, who is the social media mix-master for the Old Town Boutique District and shares my feelings on sneakers adds — “I used to think Supergas were too casual for me. I preferred to wear a pair of Oxford flats or flat ankle boots while roaming around town on the cobble stone and brick sidewalks of Alexandria. Then in doing some research on the brand I came across a street style photo of a young woman wearing black Supergas with a black blazer and black leather leggings. She looked hot. And I realized that I had been narrow-minded in my ideas of how to style them. Now that I’ve branched out, it seems my Supergas go with everything!
Have I convinced you to get a pair yet? I went for the classic and preppy look with the mushroom color but my next pair — RED! It’s got to be red!
If you are a D.C. local, you can snag yourself a pair at The Shoe Hive in Old Town, Alexandria — who by the way are celebrating their 10 year anniversary October 4- 6th with massive giveaways, prizes and a 10% discount.
So that might be a great time to come by — just sayin’.
Disclosure: I was given a pair of Supergas from The Shoe Hive for the purpose of a review. No other compensation given and all opinions and styling are my own.
