I could go into some sweet detail about this past weekend, but I’m going to make a very LONG story short — I have a lot of family in town from Chile who came for my brother’s wedding and it’s been one fiesta after another.
This past Sunday, we had an Ovalle family reunion on a boat — well more like a yacht. It was bigger than our flat in London!
The day was…GLORIOUS! Sun was shining and no one went overboard. SUCCESS!
Naturally, I wanted to dress the part — which called for a nautical look. It’s not everyday I’m cruising on the high seas (well, just the Chesapeake Baby — I think??) and we were going to be taking family photos to commemorate this special occasion. But here’s where it gets complicated. I wanted to snap a few pictures for this here blog but everyone started photobombing me!
First my sister’s boyfriend kept jumping in or discreetly putting his arm in the way, then my father and uncles would walk right in front.
Meanwhile my grandfather is asking why I’m having so many pictures taken of myself and my cousins are just cracking up laughing as I’m trying to shoo everyone away.
But I was NOT about to give up. After a few more tries, they all got tired and let me be. Good thing because it could have meant having to make someone go for a swim. Ha!
So back to the nautical look — I needed comfort and style so naturally I dove head first into my closet to see what I could come up with.
Ray-Ban Wayfarer: M broke them ages ago, but I still wear them!
Stella & Dot Mae Necklace: The red on blue commanded attention and added a touch of glam.
Blue Shirt from Target: I wore during my pregnancy and still do now!
Striped Blazer from T.J. Maxx: A must have for any nautical themed outfit.
Black Jeggins from Old Navy: Slightly rolled at the bottom and helps conceal my tummy.
Blue Patterned Flats from Target: Just the right amount of classic and preppy.
Cross Body from Old Navy: How could I not wear it — it has little anchors on it!
And finally — Mary Kay Red Lips: Absolutely essential and it makes the blues and whites POP.
I am actually quite proud of this nautical look ensemble — I’ve never worn all of these pieces together and after not “feeling” the outfit I had on before, this one just came together at the last minute. We had to leave to make it on board and I was running around trying to figure it all out. But I admit, I love the rush of those last minute creations which end up TOTALLY working out.
The nautical look never gets old and it ‘s very easy to create — just add stripes, cool shades and a touch of red!
