I rarely go to malls, but when I go I tend to park in the Macy’s parking lot and walk through the store.
Last week on my way out, I took a detour through the accessories department and ran smack into a Downton Abbey jewelry (or jewellery) stand with a variety of accessories inspired by the popular British series shown on PBS here in the States.
I have never liked or considered purchasing anything inspired by television shows, but seeing this display just made me happy — it just made sense!
My inner Lady Mary and posh British accent instantly surfaced as I looked at each of the pieces and gently touched a pair of earrings, held a necklace up to my neck and picked up a brooch while glancing in the round mirror. My mind started to wonder thinking of cousin Matthew and his perfectly side parted blonde hair when my son yelled out “mamiiii, vaaaaaaamos! / mamiiii, let’s goooooo!”
Ok, then. That was way too quick. In a second my Downton Abbey fantasy moment was over and I was back to reality. Two little faces were starting at me, begging me to take them home.
Still, I know all of us women secretly wish we could be so elegant as the women of Downton (expect for poor, poor Edith.)
The Downton Abbey collection could have gone horribly wrong and labelled as tacky given the inexpensive materials used, but it is effortlessly elegant, stylish and most importantly, affordable — even the packaging is simplistic and discreet.
Pieces such as hair pins, earrings, necklaces, and brooches start at $20 and right now you can shop the new Spring 2014 line. You can see the entire collection at the PBS website, Macy’s and Amazon just to name a few.
I personally like pieces with a vintage feel — my husband gave me a ring that looks like it could have belonged to my great-grandmother and it’s a complete show stopper. It adds a touch of elegance to any look and everyone asks about it when I wear it. It’s that unusual.
Oh, and this isn’t sponsored — just thought it was fun and totally my thing! So I may just be the last to find out about this, but who cares?!
So, now tell me darling, what’s your favorite Downton Abbey accessory?
