Real Mom Style: Michael Kors Pointed Flats

This weekend was the Old Town Boutique District Warehouse Sale here in Alexandria. Local businesses come together and reduce their prices on stock up to 75% off and it certainly draws in massive crowds.

People were in line from 6:00 am to be first through the doors at 9:00 am. Thankfully, I was invited to shop crowd-free at 8:00 am with other bloggers and media. It was heavenly!

I had a budget of $50 and had to stick to it. However, I wasn’t worried, I had a feeling I’d find that perfect item — I either wanted a handbag or a smashing pair of shoes.

In the end, I walked out with a pair of burgundy Michael Kors Haya Zipper Pointed Flats from The Shoe Hive. However, it wasn’t that simple — they were slightly big. Not the worst problem to have, only a half size but it made me doubt if I should get them.

After circling the shoe table for a while, pondering and looking for “shoe enablers” I decided to make them mine and wear with inserts — after all they were only $50 (RIGHT on budget) down from $150 which made it harder to leave them behind and they were gorgeous!

These are my first pair of designer shoes in…oh, let’s think….ummmm….A VERY LONG TIME!

I ended up wearing them for my daughter’s first birthday party with a pair of leather pants and on Sunday I styled them with a pair of burgundy jeans and a striped tee for a more casual look.

I personally like stripes with animal print, so on went the leopard scarf!

It’s a very simple look anyone can replicate with a cute pair of pointed flats — this blazer is at least five years old, and the t-shirt has been around for a while. The pointed flats may be from last season, but classic and clean looks never go out of style!

Did you look especially good this week, were the other moms at the playground complimenting your outfit? Share the look that worked for both potty training, the playground and coffee with a friend and let’s inspire each other with some real mom fashion!

    Those shoes are gorgeous! I hope I look just as good at my son’s first bday at the end of the month! I’m jealous of the shopping opportunities you have in DC. Down here at the beach has a few limitations. Thanks again for sharing the opportunity! This is fun and bringing some of my mojo back!

    • María José Ovalle

      I don’t know much about VA beach selection —I’m guessing more malls than shopping districts? And you will look fab for the birthday…take pics!

  • María José Ovalle

    thanks lovely! I’m proud of them! haha

Blo Blow Dry Bar Offers Sleek and Sexy Gwyneth Paltrow Style Hair

Received hair services free of charge. Images and opinions my own. Last week I walked into Blo — North America’s first blow dry bar at their Dupont Circle location in Washington, D.C. with dry, frizzy, over hair sprayed and unwashed hair. I had been invited to experience the WASH, BLOW, GO concept (blow out and style) to celebrate the opening of their latest blow dry bar in Gaithersburg, Maryland and I wanted it to be worth my while. What is Blo Blow {Read More}

Packing Light: Same Outfit, Three Days

Share Button

Talk about REAL mama style. Yep. Same outfit, three days (well, not SAME outfit, I did have one other shirt.) Last week I took a last minute trip to New Jersey without my husband or the kids to visit my sister-in-law and my 3 month old niece. My husband was away on a business trip and my mother didn’t have any major plans so I was able to get away and leave the kids with her. I really didn’t want to drive {Read More}

Doing the Trying-To-Fit-Into-Pre-Baby-Jeans Dance (VIDEO)

We’ve all done it. Trying to get into those jeans — pulling them up as far as they go, up over the hips and above the belly button making sure nothing spills out. Sucking in air and then trying to button and zip them. Or telling yourself  “let me sit down and stretch them out a bit” and then doing the trying-as-hard-as-you-can-to-get-into-these-f-ing-jeans dance only to give up and realize, they JUST DON’T FIT. With Fitness on the Run I’ve been {Read More}

Dreaming of a Family Friendly Italian Holiday

Share Button

*Sponsored content I’m not going to lie, this family hasn’t had a proper vacation in many, many years. We’ve had small trips here and there, but I’m still waiting for our south of France or Italian holiday getaway just as my husband promised years ago when we still lived in the UK. During our trip to London this April,  Villa Pia, a 15th century Italian country manor house, once the summer residence for a Florentine family (yep, just what it says) offered {Read More}

A Fashionable Playskool Playdate with Stylish D.C. Mamas

Share Button

It’s #RealMomStyle Monday here and today is certainly jam packed with mamas! Last week I attended the Hasbro Playskool Playdate here in Washington, D.C. with other area moms of pre-school aged kids. Hasbro was introducing new Sesame Street and Playskool toys for the season with a super hero theme and M went straight to the robots and Mr. Potato head. I was actually super excited about this event because we don’t get many big brand events here in the nation’s capital {Read More}

What to Wear to a Baseball Game (VIDEO)

Share Button

Last week I took my husband to a Washington Nationals game. I repeat, I took him. To a BASEBALL game. I don’t do baseball. It’s boring, slow and lasts FOREVER. But I wanted to do something he likes and enjoys and so…baseball it was. It was bloody hot that day, 95 degrees or so and super humid. I was a puddle of sweat. Knowing all of this and that we’d be seated for a very long time I had carefully {Read More}
