Packing Light: Same Outfit, Three Days

Share Button

Talk about REAL mama style. Yep. Same outfit, three days (well, not SAME outfit, I did have one other shirt.)

Last week I took a last minute trip to New Jersey without my husband or the kids to visit my sister-in-law and my 3 month old niece.

My husband was away on a business trip and my mother didn’t have any major plans so I was able to get away and leave the kids with her. I really didn’t want to drive alone, so I took the Vamoose Bus from D.C. to NYC and then jumped on the NJ Transit out to suburbs. It was a long journey, but without kids everything seems so easy — in fact, too easy.

You know what else was easy? Packing.

I had no intentions of wearing any thing other than a black pair of Marika magic slimming capri leggings (gifted) which are discreetly slimming and not restricting at all, sandals, a loose black and white print blouse and my favorite Extraordinary Alexandria t-shirt (of course, I packed fresh undies and bras!) I always over pack, but I didn’t want to have to deal with a heavy bag and really, we weren’t going to be doing anything other than hanging out — mama style!

My makeup was light — wearing only BB cream and mascara and the day before I had used a curling wand for soft waves so that I didn’t have to worry to much about my hair.  I took dry shampoo so that I could easily style my hair without having to wash and style and cream blush so that I didn’t need makeup tools.

I traveled with a CAbi trench, especially because I never know how high the AC will be on the bus, grabbed my $2 sunglasses and I was good to go!

The final touch was a cobalt House of Harlow Sunburst Pendant Necklace that South Moon Under gifted me a few months ago before going to London. It made the very simple outfit pop a bit because you should always have a bit of wow factor.

And that’s what I looked like for the next 2 days…it was absolute relaxation and I spent quality time with my sister in law and niece. I realize this is extreme light packing, but I’m pretty proud of myself.

Have a great week everyone!

Did you look especially good this week? Were the other moms at the playground complimenting your outfit?

Share the look that worked for both potty training, the playground and coffee with a friend and let’s inspire each other with some real mom fashion! This linky is hosted by Thrifty and Chic MomMomma in Flip Flops and myself Very Busy Mama.

    I love it, of course this only works when you are kid free otherwise they always end up staining your clothes LOL!

    Love that printed top! So envious of your light packing too – I always end up over packing, even on short trips.

    hope you had fun!

    You look great. Love the blouse and watch. Great casual-chic outfit, Maria.

    My pleasure linking up again. Would love for you how I styled a fancier dress in 2 daytime looks. Thanks, Ada. =)

Favorite Drugstore Beauty Products (VIDEO)

I often get asked for recommendations on the best drugstore beauty products, which are my favorite to use and if there are good but inexpensive ones worth trying. As I put on my makeup for the day, I go through a few of the products and their cost. Many are surprisingly under $10 (even for a tinted moisturizer) and are great for an everyday look!

Having bangs/fringe can be a lot of work — after all, they seem to have a life of their own! However if cut and styled right, the look is fresh, edgy and dramatic. Every morning I wake up looking like this: Hmm? The White Snake/80’s Hair Band look has NO place today! See my latest video on how to style, maintain (or tame!) and trim your bangs for a fresh, chic look.  P.S. as a bonus you get a mini Spanish {Read More}

Shop Small: Kiskadee Boutique Renovation Sale

I received a gift card to shop the Renovation Sale. All items selected and styled by me!  — For those of you in the Washington, D.C. area, you know how much we value our small businesses. Here in Alexandria I am spoiled for choice with boutiques, cafés, fitness facilities — all owned and operated by locals. Having grown up in a mall (most of us did, that’s how it was) “shopping small” wasn’t even on the radar. In fact, I {Read More}

No More Gift Shopping, Please! (well, sort of…)

I am a part of the PBS Kids VIP program and was given credit to shop the Overstock Kid Zone.  In this house we have something I call “Birthday Burnout.” All of our birthdays are around the busiest times of the year — December and January. Mine is on December 19th. Let’s just leave it at that. Then comes Jesus’s birthday, which just leaves everyone knackered. After the new year we celebrate our wedding anniversary on January 7th, followed by my son’s birthday on {Read More}

5 Questions to Ask When Organizing Your Closet (VIDEO)

Before the holidays I asked friend, personal wardrobe consultant and owner of Style Speaks, Cathy Starnes to help me get started on my closet organization. I found that despite cleaning and sorting, I  wasn’t exactly getting rid of stuff which is what I really needed to do. So I asked her to help me and we decided to put together a video on how to organize your closet and help others who have a hard time letting go of stuff. It’s scary {Read More}

Slimming and Stylish Lyssé Pieces Every Woman Needs

I worked with Lyssé on a sponsored Instagram only campaign and items were sent for me to style. This post is not sponsored or required. As women we compare ourselves to other women, something I stopped doing because it only makes you bitter and there is nothing you can do about it. There will always be someone prettier, smarter, better dressed, thinner, taller than you, etc. etc. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t fabulous ourselves.
