Packing Light: Same Outfit, Three Days

Share Button

Talk about REAL mama style. Yep. Same outfit, three days (well, not SAME outfit, I did have one other shirt.)

Last week I took a last minute trip to New Jersey without my husband or the kids to visit my sister-in-law and my 3 month old niece.

My husband was away on a business trip and my mother didn’t have any major plans so I was able to get away and leave the kids with her. I really didn’t want to drive alone, so I took the Vamoose Bus from D.C. to NYC and then jumped on the NJ Transit out to suburbs. It was a long journey, but without kids everything seems so easy — in fact, too easy.

You know what else was easy? Packing.

I had no intentions of wearing any thing other than a black pair of Marika magic slimming capri leggings (gifted) which are discreetly slimming and not restricting at all, sandals, a loose black and white print blouse and my favorite Extraordinary Alexandria t-shirt (of course, I packed fresh undies and bras!) I always over pack, but I didn’t want to have to deal with a heavy bag and really, we weren’t going to be doing anything other than hanging out — mama style!

My makeup was light — wearing only BB cream and mascara and the day before I had used a curling wand for soft waves so that I didn’t have to worry to much about my hair.  I took dry shampoo so that I could easily style my hair without having to wash and style and cream blush so that I didn’t need makeup tools.

I traveled with a CAbi trench, especially because I never know how high the AC will be on the bus, grabbed my $2 sunglasses and I was good to go!

The final touch was a cobalt House of Harlow Sunburst Pendant Necklace that South Moon Under gifted me a few months ago before going to London. It made the very simple outfit pop a bit because you should always have a bit of wow factor.

And that’s what I looked like for the next 2 days…it was absolute relaxation and I spent quality time with my sister in law and niece. I realize this is extreme light packing, but I’m pretty proud of myself.

Have a great week everyone!

Did you look especially good this week? Were the other moms at the playground complimenting your outfit?

Share the look that worked for both potty training, the playground and coffee with a friend and let’s inspire each other with some real mom fashion! This linky is hosted by Thrifty and Chic MomMomma in Flip Flops and myself Very Busy Mama.

    I love it, of course this only works when you are kid free otherwise they always end up staining your clothes LOL!

    Love that printed top! So envious of your light packing too – I always end up over packing, even on short trips.

    hope you had fun!

    Cute. I love the color pop in that necklace and that you are so awesome at packing light. Wow!

    You look great. Love the blouse and watch. Great casual-chic outfit, Maria.

    My pleasure linking up again. Would love for you how I styled a fancier dress in 2 daytime looks. Thanks, Ada. =)

Tutorial: How to Wax Your Mama Mustache (VIDEO)

Kids notice EVERYTHING. Including a little fuzz above the upper lip. Ok, so I don’t keep up as I should. I mean, it’s not always THAT noticeable. Unless of course, you are 5 years old and you say whatever it is that pops into your mind. Here’s how my son drove me to get my mami mustache waxed and a tutorial how you can wax your upper lip without pain (it can be done!) and regain your dignity. No shame. {Read More}

Mama and fellow blogger Andrea of Momma in Flip Flops featured me on the “Tour Through Blogland” series last week as one fashion blogger she likes to keep up with (thank you!) and this week, I’m celebrating three of my faves right here in the nation’s capital who I feel are true style mavens. They may not all blog about it everyday, but they live it. Either by helping others find their personal style, as a role model or for the simple love {Read More}

Hair TLC: Can I Get a Blowout Please?!

Sponsored post in collaboration with Bubbles Salon. Bad hair and and views are my own. Can I get a blowout por favor?! What is it? A blowout is more than just “getting your hair dried.” It’s washed and then the magic happens. The stylish uses brushes to blow out your hair straight, with some product (think old school, when your grandmother would go to the salon to get her hair done once a week) It leaves you hair looking shiny, smooth {Read More}
