Packing Light: Same Outfit, Three Days

Share Button

Talk about REAL mama style. Yep. Same outfit, three days (well, not SAME outfit, I did have one other shirt.)

Last week I took a last minute trip to New Jersey without my husband or the kids to visit my sister-in-law and my 3 month old niece.

My husband was away on a business trip and my mother didn’t have any major plans so I was able to get away and leave the kids with her. I really didn’t want to drive alone, so I took the Vamoose Bus from D.C. to NYC and then jumped on the NJ Transit out to suburbs. It was a long journey, but without kids everything seems so easy — in fact, too easy.

You know what else was easy? Packing.

I had no intentions of wearing any thing other than a black pair of Marika magic slimming capri leggings (gifted) which are discreetly slimming and not restricting at all, sandals, a loose black and white print blouse and my favorite Extraordinary Alexandria t-shirt (of course, I packed fresh undies and bras!) I always over pack, but I didn’t want to have to deal with a heavy bag and really, we weren’t going to be doing anything other than hanging out — mama style!

My makeup was light — wearing only BB cream and mascara and the day before I had used a curling wand for soft waves so that I didn’t have to worry to much about my hair.  I took dry shampoo so that I could easily style my hair without having to wash and style and cream blush so that I didn’t need makeup tools.

I traveled with a CAbi trench, especially because I never know how high the AC will be on the bus, grabbed my $2 sunglasses and I was good to go!

The final touch was a cobalt House of Harlow Sunburst Pendant Necklace that South Moon Under gifted me a few months ago before going to London. It made the very simple outfit pop a bit because you should always have a bit of wow factor.

And that’s what I looked like for the next 2 days…it was absolute relaxation and I spent quality time with my sister in law and niece. I realize this is extreme light packing, but I’m pretty proud of myself.

Have a great week everyone!

This post is about real mamas who have real style. While we all fall into the jeans and t-shirt rut we are encouraging our fellow moms to take the time to dress their best and rock it like the rock star moms they are!

Did you look especially good this week? Were the other moms at the playground complimenting your outfit?

Share the look that worked for both potty training, the playground and coffee with a friend and let’s inspire each other with some real mom fashion! This linky is hosted by Thrifty and Chic MomMomma in Flip Flops and myself Very Busy Mama.

    I love it, of course this only works when you are kid free otherwise they always end up staining your clothes LOL!

    Love that printed top! So envious of your light packing too – I always end up over packing, even on short trips.

    hope you had fun!

    You look great. Love the blouse and watch. Great casual-chic outfit, Maria.

    My pleasure linking up again. Would love for you how I styled a fancier dress in 2 daytime looks. Thanks, Ada. =)

History Meets Style at the Spite House in Old Town Alexandria

Sunday’s are always family days and we pretty much stay in Alexandria. There is always something going on, so we never need to go very far. This weekend was the 12th Annual King Street Art Festival and the weather was just marvelous! Breezy, sunny with a touch of fall in the air. Alexandria is a historic city with brick sidewalks, cobblestone streets, colorful row homes and more. On the way back to the car I wanted to show the Mr. {Read More}

You got me. It’s not a back to school fall style session for the kids, but for us, the mamas (and non-mamas too!) By now most of us parents of school age kids can cross back to school shopping off our lists. Now it’s time for OUR back to school shopping! Yes, yes — it’s time to get out and update your fall wardrobe — after all we need to look good for back to school night, and that bake sale {Read More}

Give Your Mama Outfit an Edge with a Skull Print Scarf

Sometimes you just want to add a bit of edginess to a classic look, at least I do. That’s what happened last Thursday when I wore this skull print scarf that I bought at H&M for $3 from their sale bin two weeks ago. I was going on Let’s Talk Live to do my monthly segment and the dress I was going to wear was a bit too snug in the chest area — the good news is that it fits because of the 12 {Read More}

Sponsored post in collaboration with The Motherhood and Look Good Feel Better. We all like to look and feel good, that’s just natural. No one purposely sets out to do the opposite — at least I wouldn’t think they do! As a woman and mother, I’ve had my ups and my doooooowns and each time with help and support I get back up, get it sorted and move on.  Many times when we do start anew, we start by changing {Read More}

Fitness Classes and Stylish Gear for Every Stage of Motherhood

It’s never EVER easy to get back into working out after an extended ‘leave of absence.’ As mamas we are busy, yes, but depending on the age of our children, our “busy” can vary. For instance, a new mom has a variety of challenges and fills her days differently than a mother with school age kids. You get it.  So when it comes to working out, getting in shape and feeling good the same applies. Fitness classes are NOT a one size fits {Read More}
