Sunday’s are always family days and we pretty much stay in Alexandria. There is always something going on, so we never need to go very far. This weekend was the 12th Annual King Street Art Festival and the weather was just marvelous! Breezy, sunny with a touch of fall in the air.
Alexandria is a historic city with brick sidewalks, cobblestone streets, colorful row homes and more. On the way back to the car I wanted to show the Mr. a national landmark — The Spite House at 523 Queen Street.
Ready for quick history lesson? Alright, alright!
See, the reason I wanted to stop by (for the hundredth time) at The Spite House is that this is the narrowest house in America.
It is only 7ft wide, around 25 feet deep and 325 square feet in two stories. Built in 1830, it’s called the Spite House by some because the owner of one of the adjacent houses, built it to keep horse-drawn wagons and loiterers out of his alley.
I’ve never had a tour of the inside, but according to the New York Times article it’s said that “the brick walls of the living room have gouges from wagon-wheel hubs.”
How cool is that? The family that owns it don’t live there full time, but I believe they do stay over every once in a while and I’m hoping it will be open for the 73rd Annual History Homes Tour in a few weeks. I’m dying to see the inside!
I truly enjoy living among in such an authentic area and being able to stop and encounter hidden gems and introducing friends, family and even YOU my readers to this gorgeous city.
As for the outfit, its a simple Sunday look — a black and white dress from Loft which I got at 50% last week, new J.Jill scalloped ballet flats (gifted), floral scarf and to add a little badness (which I’ve mentioned before when styling a skull scarf and 5 reasons to wear camo) I added this Betsey Johnson Skull Boss satchel I picked up at a consignment store a few weeks ago.
My coolness factor with my son is off the charts — “mami, ¡tu tienes ropa de camoflauge Y piratas!” // “mami, you have camoflauge AND pirate clothes!”
Yep. That’s me. Camo-Pirate mami.
And if you are ever in Washington, D.C., visit me in Alexandria — you won’t be sorry!
Your host for this week is Momma in Flip Flops
This post is about real mamas who have real style. While we all fall into the jeans and t-shirt rut we are encouraging our fellow moms to take the time to dress their best and rock it like the rock star moms they are!
Did you look especially good this week, were the other moms at the playground complimenting your outfit?
Share the look that worked for both potty training, the playground and coffee with a friend and let’s inspire each other with some real mom fashion! This linky is hosted by Thrifty and Chic Mom and Very Busy Mama.
