You don’t have to overdo the red, white and blue to celebrate the 4th of July. Or should I say, PLEASE do not overdo the red, white and blue! Here are two simple and fun 4th of July outfit ideas for you and the kids.
With simple accessories and one stand out piece of clothing you can and will look stylishly patriotic.
Sadly, kids are helpless fashion victims on this holiday. Parents go CRAY-CRAY with stars and stripes everything — when all you they need is ONE item such as a shirt, hat or a simple pair of shades to commemorate this day. We were in downtown D.C. today and 4 people stopped to tell my son his $1 American flag sunglasses from the Target bins were cool.
And there is no doubt he is showing off his patriotic pride.
As for me, this red and white polka dot halter top from The Pink Armoire (blog sponsor) is perfect for celebrating our nation’s 239th birthday and it can be worn throughout the summer without being seen as a “4th of July outfit.”
This really is more of a public service announcement than a style post — I just can’t handle the horribly tacky and tasteless style choices on this summer holiday especially given such classic colors to work with.

I know, I know. I have given this serious thought, but it really bothers me. In fact, this is my first time EVER wearing red, white and/or blue for the 4th.
So remember girls, keep it simple! Less is more! And if you are wearing a top as your patriotic piece (which is an easy option) such as this polka dot halter consider adding rolled shorts, sandals, a great pair of sunglasses, a hat and… baby, you’re a firework!
