Maxi Dress Hacks for Short Women
Never did I think I could pull off a maxi dress without getting tangled in it and falling on my face and I know many of you think the same. I’m only 5’1” so, yeah, SHORT.
This summer is the first time I’ve worn not only one, but two maxi dresses. I’ve dabbled in the maxi skirt before because I found they are easier to fix for a shorter frame.
Let’s start with the dress itself — this gorgeousness is the Paradise Halter Maxi Dress from Loft. Original price was $98 and this weekend I bought it for $15. Yes, $15!
The good news? It is still available online now.
More good news — it runs big and it comes in petite.
The dress is so stunning, that while I was in the fitting room 3 other women saw me in it, tried it on themselves and bought it. That’s what I love!
Here are my 5 maxi dress hacks for short women:
Knot it: If you have a maxi dress with straps, tie them up in cute knots to bring up the length. Or cut them and then tie them.
Wear wedges: Wear footwear with height to bring you up off the ground (I know, I’m wearing flip flops here. Sorry!)
Belt it: Wear a belt right at the highest point of the waist, bring the dress up and loosely style over the belt. This will bring it up 1 or 2 inches off the ground.
Expand halter: If you get a halter maxi, expand the halter to bring it up or make an additional tie in the back.
Safety Pin it: Grab a pinch of material around the waist and secure it with one safety pin on each side at the desired length. Then add belt to cover pins!
BONUS: When buying maxi dresses, a good way to measure if it’s a good length is to look down and see your toes. If they are not peeking out, it’s too long.
