How to start acting — it’s a question I get when I tell people that I’m venturing down this road at the tender (ahem) age of 37 and a mother of 3.
Not as difficult as you might think no matter where you live, but like everything, it takes hard work, training, dedication and CONFIDENCE. At this moment I’m out of acting commission given the new addition to our family but I’ll be back soon enough and in the meantime I’m on the lookout for acting projects and of course, networking.
However, before the arrival of my sweet Elisa, I did workshops on how to further my career, found an agent and worked on a few projects with local filmmakers — one a comedic role and the other a dramatic one.
Take a look and let me know what you think!
I was asked to audition for a sketch comedy style web series when I was 4 months pregnant.
No particular role, but comedic timing and “good facial expressions” where a must. We shot this in one afternoon! Every time I’m on set, any set, I make sure to take it all in. I watch the crew, the set up of the scene, background actors — everything! It’s important to me to learn both what goes on behind the camera as well as in front in order to create great material.
During my audition I got emotional because I could sense the woman’s suffering for her children seeing her this way. I personally am not a victim of abuse, but it was difficult to not cry when getting into character. This is a 20 second clips of my scenes — don’t touch the volume, it’s supposed to be silent.
GOALS not dreams!
Even though I have representation (an agent) I continue to meet, connect and get myself out there in order to be seen. Goal wise I want to book a speaking role on a Virginia/DC based TV series (Mercy Street, Legends & Lies, Turn, House of Cards to name a few) a major movie, a national commercial and a Spanish language project — yep I’m telenovela ready! 2017 is going to be GREAT, I just know it!
My absolute dream role/show: Law & Order: SVU and work with Mariska Hargitay. Go BIG or go home, right?!
